Hey guys, I'm a newfound fan of the 40K universe! I love the great detail and the sheer volume of information that has been put into the lore, like the races and the story of the Imperium and most importantly, the weaponry. As such, I got curious and I thought I would attempt to do a semi-scientific analysis of one of the most iconic weapons of 40K, the boltgun of the Adeptus Astartes. This is my humble contribution. Enjoy! Diana Denyse Hay, 23rd Countess of Erroll (1926–1978), [8] who married Sir Iain Moncreiffe of that Ilk in 1946. They divorced in 1964 and, later that year, she married Maj. Raymond Carnegie, a grandson of Charles Carnegie, 7th Earl of Southesk. [7] Over the millennia, Heavy Bolter designs have been improved and changed many times. There exist hundreds of variants, but only a few have made any radical differences in the weapon's function. The result is a tier list, basically. I found some weapons were much better than I first assumed, and also confirmed in my own mind that there's definetly quite a big range of power levels amongst the guns. The variants of a particular class sometimes behave very differently, so the impression of an entire class can be colored by trying a weaker variant first. Now, there's no need to perfectly balance every weapon, especially in a PvE game, but when there's too much of a power gap you do start to get issues with variety in the higher difficulties.

TIMES, Wireless to THE NEW YORK (23 November 1930). "COUNTESS WEDS 4TH TIME; Divorced Wife of Earl of Erroll Marries Again in England". The New York Times . Retrieved 9 June 2020. After doing the math, a bolter round is shown to impact with an absolutely murderous 27,194 joules of energy. This, in case anybody is wondering, is an absolutely insane amount of power. For a reference point, a standard .50 BMG round (12.7x99mm NATO) has a kinetic energy of approximately 17,000 joules. A bolter is absolutely TERRIFYING. This is something that you would use to go hunting tyrannosaurs with, and an Astartes fires one of these fully automatic. This round literally impacts with so much force that the explosive charge contained within is almost negligible; anything that gets hit with even one of these rounds would be absolutely destroyed from the sheer impact. Suffice it to say, the Adeptus Astartes do not mess around with their weaponry! It features an integral bipod for sustained firing and a sight inside of the carrying handle. The ammunition used by this weapon is intended for anti-vehicle effectiveness: it is self-propelled, mass-reactive, high-explosive, and armour-piercing. Even taking all that into account, it doesn't really do that much more damage than the other rifle type weapons anyway. The MG XII fills the high damage, low fire rate niche much better. They are however Cybernetica, so you’re going to need to babysit them if you don’t want them running a bit wild with Programmed Behaviour, which allows them to be easily baited into charging something you really don’t want them to. We wouldn’t run them without a babysitter (Perturabo or a Warsmith being the best, but a Praevian or Nârik Dreygur being honourable mentions as well), but we absolutely recommend running them at your first opportunity. Just remember they’re Movement 8, and those choices are all either Movement 6 or Movement 7, even Perturabo. Most marine players are ready for dreadnoughts, tanks, and infantry, not a moving wall of unkillable steel marching at them… It might technically have slightly higher DPS than the laspistol, but the laspistol can reliably blam a dozen Shooters in the face before it needs to reload, whearas the autopistol sputters out after about three, and its worse at range, and it has lower ammo efficency. The only real advantage it has is that you don't need to aim it too carefully.

Metal Storm Frag Rounds are best used against multiple lightly-armoured targets. They detonate before impact and spray shrapnel, shredding their victims. The balance on these weapons just feels off. I guess the idea is they are more of a DMR weapon fufilling a similar role to the Lasguns, but the Lasguns just seem to fill every aspect of that role better. I was expecting them to have higher damage to compensate for the recoil, clip-size, and ammo-pool issues, but they actually do less damage so I'm not sure what the point of them is. The burst modes are just a hinderance at longer ranges and often result in wasted bullets. Kraken Penetrator Rounds, also called Kraken Bolts, are powerful armour-piercing rounds. The dense metallic core is replaced by a solid adamantium core and uses a heavier main detonator charge. Buff Suggestion: probably just a bit more damage to make it take 1 less shot to kill difficulty 4 and 5 Shooters from mid-range. This might make it crazy strong in difficulty 3, but I don't think it'd be outshining the Bolter or anything.

This ammunition was available as an option for all units in the Iron Warriors Legion equipped with Heavy Bolters, twin-linked Heavy Bolters or Quad Heavy Bolters. Buff suggestion: boost the damage. It's already high risk, just bump up the reward. At the very least, grunts in flak armour should not be surviving plasma bolts to the chest. Infernus Heavy Bolter - An Infernus Heavy Bolter is a specialty weapon developed for use by the alien-hunting Deathwatch Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes. Standard Heavy Bolters fire huge, mass-reactive bolts, each more comparable to an explosive shell than a bullet. The Deathwatch mag-clamps rare anti-gravitic suspensor discs onto their Infernus Heavy Bolters that reduce the weapon's effective weight considerably. Such weapons are further bolstered by underslung Heavy Flamers that can incinerate those enemies that make it through the hail of explosive bolts. Truly interesting. Special Issue Bolter ammunition -- from left to right: a Kraken Bolt, a Vengeance Round, a Hellfire Round and a Dragonfire Bolt. The result of early experiments with alternative krak technology, an implosion shell replaces its explosive core with an infinitesimally small amount of antimatter; this creates a violently decompressing vacuum when exposed to matter.
