About this deal

Built in the late 18th century next to the distillery, the Great House is surrounded by a fabulous tropical garden and visitor’s center.

I’ll have to say, I find the old one slightly better, had that very distinctive Hampden profile, whereas this one doesn’t spell Hampden straight away, although the flavour is still recognisable. In the unlikely event that you're not happy with your purchase, for whatever reason, then please do get in touch so that we can make amends. This is a prime example of the robust, funky expressions to be produced at the legendary distillery. Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously. Aged for a minimum of 7 years in the tropics after a long, natural fermentation, this blend of 100% traditional Pot Still marks is characterised by a high ester profile and tropical notes.

Very complex, packing big aromas of pineapple, passion fruit and new-car leather, candied and jellied fruit, papaya, guava, lime, Seville orange, blood orange and nectarine, banana and toasted spice notes build, with prominent clove notes. The banana only really comes in with the taste along with the typical Hampden flavours hiding under the most pronounced burn, the burnt tyres, and an oily-ness, all moving into a long finish. Trelawny, where the Hampden Estate is situated makes the heaviest and funkiest rum on the island of Jamaica. This bottling is the new formula for the previous Hampden Estate 46% ABV which I reviewed here – the reason I mention the ABV is because there is also a 60% ABV version for more hardcore rumheads. Despite the name here, this spirit is surprisingly elegant while possessing an undeniable intensity as well.

Bacardi has a portfolio of more than 200 brands and labels spanning a wide variety of spirits categories. A high ester Hampden Estate Jamaican rum, HLCF stands for Hampden Light Continental Flavoured, one of many distillate styles made at the Hampden Estate distillery, where rum has been made since 1753. The rum has been aged for 8 years in Jamaica in a tropical climate, which is equivalent to almost 25 years of maturation in the European climate. This is in great part due to an extremely high level of esters achieved by a very long, complex process.

Hampden's HLCF Classic Overproof rum has a high ester content of around 400-600 gr/hlpa - for this release, the ester content is 476 gr/hlpa, in no small part due to the long wild yeast fermentations practised at the distillery. The palate has intense fruit: pineapple, apple, pear, mango and papaya stewed down into a thick jam. The world of spirits is infinite, fascinating, entertaining, distracting and a giver of great pleasure. The only suggestion l would make to improve this tour is to have more than two types of rum for guests to sample. On this tour you will: - Travel through the rural Jamaican countryside, pass sugar cane fields, and enjoy the magnificent landscape and views. Enjoy a hearty Jamaican welcome, and sip on a smooth rum punch while you learn a little about Jamaica, Hampden's rich history, and the mysteries of rum making. This legendary distillery is one of the (just a) few that still maintains centuries old production techniques that were developed to create its signature full bodied, high ester rums. Hampden Estate has one of the oldest sugar estates in Jamaica and the only estate to specialise exclusively in heavy pot still rum. Comment: Layers and layers of fruit are carefully balanced by cream and a touch of dark and dirty oiliness.
