I think the J-pillow is a great choice if you have a window seat on a plane, or are traveling by car or train. I felt as though my head wasn't able to dip down at all so I was forced to sleep with my head tilted to the side.

Follow our adventures as we discover hidden gems, amazing landscapes, or cute things to do in Japan. It inflates to the classic U shape, but with a style of raised neck support that more and more inflatable pillows use these days. On a recent tag-along trip to Amsterdam, I was chatting with one of Steve’s colleagues about how difficult it is to sleep on a plane. Given that it also isn’t machine-washable, this probably isn’t a pillow you’d want to rub your face against long-term. The versatile Bcozzy is my recommended travel pillow for children, with its friendly look and comfy feel.If you're lolling asleep while sitting up in a plane, train, or car seat, that unsupported weight of your head can put a significant strain on your neck. The only time I have a blissful sleep that leaves me refreshed after a long-haul flight is when I’m lucky enough to score business class tickets and can lie flat.

When testing, we look for quality, design features and value for money, as well as overall function and visual appeal. It’s not available in the UK at the moment, so I’d stick with the Cabeau as it is sold in the UK and has a better design anyway. It is by far the most comfortable pillow I’ve ever used and I love that it rolls up into a “cinnamon bun” during transport. And if you're looking to sleep comfortably — as we all are — what good is a supportive travel pillow if it's not comfortable to snuggle up against? For long haul flights in coach, it’s certainly worth a try; I had no neck pain at all when I finally disembarked from the plane. Mvloc used to make one of my favorite inflatable pillows, but they appear to have stopped that model and now produce this memory foam version instead. The ubiquitous microbead pillow is lightweight and inexpensive, but its low profile leaves much to be desired when it comes to actual neck support. But if you’re in a hurry, here’s a quick look at our top five: Which is the best travel pillow in 2024? The straps are a great idea, but if you're short it might not be possible to secure to the headrest, so keep that in mind.

If you are a resident of another country or region, please select the appropriate version of Tripadvisor for your country or region in the drop-down menu. I took it with me on an overbooked flight with a 2am takeoff and did manage to get some sleep, admittedly in and out, but that’s better than my usual long haul wide-eyed experience. It requires an illustrated guide to do so, however, and on its own doesn’t offer very much neck support. Our premium memory foam core is protected by a moisture-wicking, machine-washable cover that keeps your neck dry and stays fresh-looking.

The memory foam style has considered everything, from an adjustable toggle clasp to secure the pillow comfortably around your neck, to a handy side pocket – ideal for storing headphones or earplugs. Why we like it: “I tried both the original and the revamped Trtl pillows on a flight to Japan, and this one definitely proved a more comfortable fit. We rank products relative to one another so that you as the consumer can directly compare the pros and cons of each. The Sunany Inflatable and Ostrichpillow Light are the only two pillows we tested that are not machine washable — the inflatable Sunany is handwash only, and the Ostrichpillow does not have a removable cover and must be spot cleaned. Why we like it: “The bag it comes in is surprisingly small (about the size of a small wash bag), so it hardly takes up any room in your carry on luggage, which is a real plus. The Ostrichpillow Go Neck Pillow has everything you might be looking for in a travel pillow companion. It’s large enough to keep your head reasonably upright, which isn’t always the case with this style.
