Four attractive gloss colour pages are to be found at the start of the volume (Mika’s colour work is as delicate and attractive as ever). If you’re not in a hurry to see kissy time, there’s something soothing about just taking the time to live in the moment. This year, I was unable to find it and am so happy to have this copy, packaged beautifully and shipped very fast. Frieren is still going strong continuing from last season, but The Dangers in My Heart is the one stealing the spotlight!

Sometimes this happens after a long time-gap, sometimes these stories portray the relationship changing while the two are still at school together, as is the case with I Cannot Reach You.

It turns out that there’s much more to this trip for Yamato (even though neither Kakeru nor his grandparents could have known) and it could prove a turning point for the little boy who’s been bearing such a weight on his shoulders. Here are the three things that drew me to this: It's a slow-burn BL romance (the romance seems to burn at your emotions in the most satisfying way), a manga (so I get to see everything happen in such a pretty art style! Cool and collected Yamato isn’t very sociable, but he’s actually a pretty considerate guy and capable of navigating social situations just fine when he has too – he does need Kakeru to push him into them, though. The siblings are very close (we learn in the flashback at the end of the volume that this is because they’re in a single parent family, cared for by their working mother, although this is not the whole story by any means). It has everything there is to find in a slice-of-life BL manga, with a mix of humor and yearning for that best friend you are hesitant to admit your feelings to.

Both boys are always thinking of the other and trying to help each other, but can’t quite seem to connect. They’re both very sweet and I hope that they’ll be able to start properly communicating and can work things out between them soon.His jealousy, his possessiveness, his yearning to be more than “just friends”… But Yamato is absolutely terrified of losing his best friend Kakeru if he ever admits the truth that he is and has been in love with him forever.
