While results vary even if you follow recipes precisely, I prefer to simply do color tests during the cooking process. The amount of vehicle and desired temperature and cooking time duration will vary based on the plant itself.

It is recommended that you either simply cover the petals in hot water or simmer on very low heat when extracting color for ink.As you might of noticed some inks take up to 2 days to complete so I always had 2-3 inks cooking at once. You can really feel Logan's passion for what he does filter into every aspect of this book - the layout and photography is just damn delicious, his rigorous commitment to experimentation, the poetic colour introductions, playful stories and an overall reassuring, joyful tone that beckons you to experiment too. Your goal should not be a set amount of ink but rather a colour and consistency that feels right to you.

I’d happily use hide glue if I could assure myself it is a byproduct of a sustainable, ethical meat system, or make it myself from my own animals. At this point you can just leave the dye pot to sit somewhere cool for a few days, and allow the dye to darken further.
