About this deal

We bought this audio device for our NGO to capture audio on the go for our videos, interviews, podcasts and also in a booth to record voice over using XLR inputs. And for this price we just could not find anything that would match zoom h5 in its usability, audio quality and portability. As of right now you probably won't find anything better! Just 2 AA batteries—either alkaline or rechargeable NiMH—are required for power. When using alkaline batteries, the H5 will operate for more than 15 hours, even while recording continuously. You can also use an optional AC adapter to power the H5 without batteries. The H5 records directly to SD and SDHC cards up to 32 gigabytes. Maximum recording time is dependent upon the card size and file type; for example, the supplied 2GB SD card can hold approximately fourteen hours of stereo 320 kbps MP3 files, three hours of stereo 16-bit / 44.1 kHz WAV files, or an hour of stereo 24-bit / 96 kHz WAV files.

Zero Handling noise thanks to the material the unit is made, XLRs just make the job with no complaints at all. It is important to format your SD card before recording to ensure that it is clear of other data and compatible with the Zoom. Note: Formatting erases all current data. Verify that all important contents are accessible at another location (your computer, external hard drive, etc.) before formatting. This was presumably measured without any external microphones connected to the devices. Bear in mind that connecting two microphones to the H5, or four to the H6, will lower the battery life, especially if you are using phantom power. XLR/TRS combination inputs with microphone preamps and phantom power (+12/+24/+48V) accommodate most analog connectionsA dedicated camera for streaming offers professional-quality video, leaving a memorable impression on viewers.

Built-in processing includes highpass filtering, compression, limiting, and M-S stereo width decoding Doubles as a handy USB recording interface with your Mac, Windows PC, or iPad (via Apple Camera Connection Kit)

Built-in Processing and More

Set up your camera either at eye level or at a slight downward angle (from the top of your computer monitor, for instance). Upward angles tend to be unflattering, so use a tripod to raise your camera’s height if your desk is too low. If you’re recording voice, all you need is 24bit/48kHz, but if you want to record some sound effects, being able to do so at 96kHz would offer you more flexibility during post production. Storage The Line Out lets you send audio from the Zoom H5 to the input of a camera or other device without needing an attenuator cable. There’s also a separate headphone output, and you can use both outputs at the same time to route audio to your DSLR while monitoring with headphones. That being said, if you think you might one day need to plug in a few extra microphones, it’s worth spending a little bit of extra money and getting the Zoom H6. THAT SAID, the recording quality on the H5 is remarkably higher than the previous brothers, the sound is just more naturally "in your face" and easily verges on a studio-like sound.
