As I mentioned before, the P23i has two buttons: A circular on/off switch, and a flat Strobe Ready™ mode paddle. I’ll refer to them here as the circular and mode buttons. Hard-hitting bezel with overwhelming brightness and easy one-handed controls. Unparalleled tactical performance. Look at those regulated graphs! Low is a straight line, right across the board. Ultralow would be like that, too, but I didn’t test that 45 hour runtime. Mid and high hang out around 600-700 for most of their runtime, and you can see Nitecore’s patented Advanced Temperature Regulation raising and lowering the output a little throughout the life of the battery. Mode These accessories can enhance the functionality and usability of the flashlight for a range of applications. But that’s not all – the strike bezel is also equipped with silicon nitride ceramics, which makes glass breaking even easier. That’s why this makes such a great work light with self-defense capabilities. Measurement disclaimer: Testing flashlights is my hobby. I use hobbyist-level equipment for testing, including some I made myself. Try not to get buried in the details of manufacturer specifications versus measurements recorded here; A certain amount of difference (say, 10 or 15%) is perfectly reasonable. What’s IncludedIn addition to the tactical mode which offers four brightness levels and strobe mode, daily mode can be used which provides the full five brightness levels ranging from 50 to 3000 lumens, plus strobe. When in the light, a complete circuit is made (as you can see, the blue light is on below.) However without the tailcap, you don’t have any switches, so can’t turn the light on. On the flip side, I personally didn’t like the proprietary battery a little. I understand it brings branded value and longevity too. But replacements and repair requirements can be a little difficult. But for sure, it only takes less than 4 hours to charge fully. I recommend using the USB-C charging cable given by Nitecore to charge it safely. The covered charging port definitely ensures safety.

The Nitecore P23i flashlight is designed to ensure the user can insert the battery without worrying about the direction. Nitecore has used a Luminus SFT-70 emitter in the P23i. This emitter is coupled with a smooth and fairly deep reflector. For reference, here’s a baseline shot, with all the room lights off and almost nothing hitting the sensor. Also, here’s the light with the worst PWM I could find. I’m adding multiple timescales, so it’ll be easier to compare to the test light. Unfortunately, the PWM on this light is so bad that it doesn’t even work with my normal scale, which is 50 microseconds (50us). 10ms. 5ms. 2ms. 1ms. 0.5ms. 0.2ms.In a display faster than 0.2ms or so, the on/off cycle is more than one screen, so it’d just (very incorrectly) look like a flat line. I wrote more about this Ultrafire WF-602C flashlight and explained a little about PWM too. User Interface and OperationThe advanced temperature regulation is pretty impressive. I tested the flashlight inside my car with the heater turned to the fullest point, and then during winter — on both occasions, the light didn’t seem to drop its performance. The Nitecore P23i rechargeable flashlight is super bright, compact with long throws. It achieves 3000 lumens max and reaches 512 yards of beam throw, thanks to the single SFT-70 LED and a large polished reflector. The Nitecore P23i is the culmination of all the new upgrades fans have been asking for in the P series. Throws farther than the P20i, but far more compact than the P30i. USB-C Rechargeable, Extended Runtime Made of aluminum, bright, and waterproof, can take some drops and can blind someone, and many will call that tactical. The P23i is specially designed for tactical applications such as night searching and distinguishing targets. The dual tail switch design provides a tactical tail button with momentary-on, constant - on and a mode button with output adjustment and the ability to instantly access strobe. The U-shape tail cap also helps prevent accidental operation while being carried and can also be used to attach the included wrist lanyard. The indicator will show the remaining battery voltage when disconnected from charging or when the battery is first inserted with a series of flashes. For example if the voltage is 4.2 V it will flash four times, pause and flash twice more. The indicator will also display remaining battery power when the torch is turned on by being steady illuminated for over 50%, slowly flashing for below 50% and rapidly flashing for below 10%.

The torch has Nitecore's 2nd generation Strobe Ready technology with instant access to strobe mode with an inset mode switch to avoid accidental activation. The output has a randomly changing frequency between 16Hz and 20Hz, for emergency use. The tactical U-shaped tail cap also offers tail stand capability and can be used with a wrist lanyard (included).
