About this deal

I'm always a fan of fantasy worlds that are filled with different magical beings, and here we have fae, witches, (humans) and a siren. Yes, one, because Saoirse is the last siren, and so she needs to hide her identity. The story starts of very strong, and that strong feeling remains during the whole time reading this book!

The prince’s obsession was a little weak. Obsessed with her only cause she was mysterious. And I’m convinced he is also a siren 100% Im calling it. He sounds just as mesmerising clearly. I look forward to the second book because I need answers! But don't worry - while the story continues in book two, the first one doesn't have a cliffhanger. i’ve followed the author on tiktok for a long time, so i’ve been really anticipating this book! i love both mermaids and hidden identities, both of which this book had. i also love strong family relationships, and it was awesome seeing saoirse’s relationship with her little sister.

Sing Me To Sleep was a superb debut in that I couldn't put this down and that's pretty epic for a first book. Added to that, I'm so glad this is going to be a series because I need more of Saoirse and Hayes, more of the world and the delicious writing. AD|GIFTED} SING ME TO SLEEP tells the tale of the last siren in Keirdre and her new role as bodyguard to the Crown Prince. Saoirse appears to be irritable, aloof, and arrogant but she represses a lot of her emotions due to self-loathing and the numerous secrets she is forced to keep. She's also a murderer (and sometimes an assassin) thanks to her irresistible Siren nature luring her to kill. It's hard not to feel sorry for a child/teenager left without any kind of training to control her impulses though. So we’re supposed to think that’s a justified death just because he called her little sister a mean name? Absolutely not. Cool motive-still murder.

The writing and the pacing of this book were so good! It grabbed a hold of me and didn’t let me go. I believe I read the first 15% in two days and then the rest of the book in one sitting! The pacing was done very well, perfectly to keep me hooked. It was also a really nice balance between tension, action and character growth.

The main characters are unlikeable. The magic system is underdeveloped and makes no sense. It’s gross to have a 12-year-old child seducing adults. The leads have no romantic chemistry, yet they have an inherently toxic relationship. Wild idea, if someone kills your best friend don’t forgive them, or be in love with them. The monarchy is evil for the sake of being evil. The villains are arguably evil for the sake of being evil. All of the book’s world-building is done through info dumping. The monarchy allows its prince to be guarded by literal children and the most unprofessional guards in the world after they’ve already had one son killed. The parents may as well not exist in this book for how much authority they have over their children.

This book has a lot less water action that I was led to believe. I personally didn't mind that but I definitely think everyone who thinks they'll get lots of underwater and mermaid/siren action definitely needs to readjust their expectations. In the second book in this dark and seductive YA fantasy duology, a siren must decide if saving her kingdom is worth betraying the boy she loves. Do you want to read about a 17-year-old siren who’s a bodyguard for a prince and oh my god, she falls in love with him in a plot that’s never ever ever ever ever been done before? If you didn’t catch the sarcasm, can you at least catch the 17? Let’s not make children sexy. This book sounded like it was right up my alley😭😭😭 and yet I couldn’t get into it at all. My biggest issue was the credibility of the characters relationships. I didn’t believe the closeness of the MC’s relationships. I think the problem was that the author was constantly telling us that this was all for the MC’s sister and yet I couldn’t see why the MC was absolutely obsessed with keeping her sister safe?? It felt like “LOOK AT ME LOVE MY SISTER” but not, “see why I care”?The twists and reveals this book has, OMG! They took me by surprise! My mouth kept falling open so often and I was just shook at some events happening! It came completely out of the blue and it was done in the best way! The ending itself was a bit bittersweet to me, but at the same time it is a perfectly understandable ending to this story and a perfect stepping stone to the next book! Which I need ASAP! It had a lot of complexity, and the world was filled with history and culture. The elemental magic system included Fae and other magical creatures. I adored Saoirse’s ability to taste emotions. It meant I could genuinely feel every interaction she had. Sing Me to Sleep is a story about Saoirse, a siren in hiding, protecting her little sister by going to work for the crown prince. Saoirse is the last siren in her kingdom. With a deadly melody, she can sing any man to an early grave. By day, she’s disguised as a fae in her kingdom’s army. By night, she’s an assassin for dangerous mercenaries. When she’s forced to accept a job guarding Crown Prince Hayes, she expects to despise him. Instead, she finds herself increasingly drawn to him – especially when they must work together to find a deadly killer plaguing the city. The only problem: Saoirse is that deadly killer. The writing is evocative, sporting intense almost whimsical figurative speech, that delights us with unconventional but spot-on descriptions. Words brought together that you would not expect, but are perfect in each other's company. The author's imagination shines in this world she's built, the magic, creatures and etc she has 'conjured' for it, something to behold.
