Using Portra 400, I wanted to retain a bit more saturation for this landscape scene so I average metered the foreground at 320 and shot just like that. Designed especially for portraiture, travel, nature, wedding, and outdoor shoots (including moving subjects), this film is a versatile accessory. The light on the subject is more or less direct, but there is a thin high cloud behind me diffusing it slightly which softened the shadows. Nevertheless, metering for low-light photography on film has been one of the trickiest things for me to learn, and it’s something I’m sure I’ll continue to work on as time goes by. Kodak Portra 400 is one of the world’s most popular colour negative film and is perfect for both studio and location shoots.

While it’s true that drum scans give an edge in sharpness and tonality, you can most certainly get outstanding results from your Portra film using a flatbed or DSLR to scan it. What I did with these images was locked my shutter speed, ISO, focused, and adjusted a variable ND filter to get the exposure that I wanted. He provides oversight to all of the daily tasks, including editorial, administrative, and advertising work. For this next image, the classic Scottish weather of wind and rain was spitting droplets onto the lens. Aside from the T-grain one, I have no idea what those things are and will definitely forget them once I’ve finished writing this. Outstanding scanning results with finer grain and an emulsion overcoat specially designed for scanners, Portra Films reproduce beautifully.

It’s a great film for street photography or in areas where there’s lots of leafy green foliage (think greens and tans).Everything I do and what I learn along the way gets shared on here, to inform and inspire you to get out and shoot as much - and as well - as you can too. This film can have such a unique color palette that is flattering for many types of subjects and light conditions, but it’s also one of the films that I’ve gotten the most questions about when it comes to metering and shooting. So, although this is again unconfirmed, it seems that Fuji has resumed production of Fujicolor 200 in Japan. For years, professional photographers have preferred Kodak Professional Portra films because of their consistently smooth, natural reproduction of the full range of skin tones.
